Alverno celebrated Earth Day 2016 with a visit from Alyson Schill of Generation Earth who presented the students with a trophy and a artist-decorated recycling bin for winning the LA County 5th District Recycling competition, Battle of the Schools!
  

Students presented short speeches on the many environmental projects at Alverno:

Pummel the Plastic
Alverno Portable Aquaponics System
Alverno Aquaponics
Alverno rain water diversion project
Alverno Native Plant Gardens

Students also had fun playing eco games, such as the  "Recycling Relay Race" and "Carry a recyclable item on an 8-stringed contraption".

The KATV (Alverno Student News program) reported on the event with an interview with Alyson Schill.

This week will be Earth Week at Alverno.  There will be Recycled Can Steampunk Bug Making (thanks to NAHS), 3-D Day for the Environment on Tuesday, a Recycled Material Costume Competition on Wednesday, and a Bring in Your Refillable Bottle for a Treat on Friday!
